Strong Foreign Presence in Havana Book Fair 2013

22nd International Book Fair of HavanaHavana, Jan 19 (Prensa Latina) – Some 200 intellectuals from 32 countries have confirmed their presence at the 22nd International Book Fair of Havana on Feb. 14-24, with Angola as Guest of Honor. During a press briefing, Vice President of the Cuban Book Institute, Edel Morales, said that this year most figures attending the fair are devoted to the fiction field (novel and poetry) rather than to social sciences.

He cited Mario Delgado Aparain (Uruguay), Carlos Lucarevi (Italy), Vi cente Battista (Argentina) and Paco Ignacio Taibo (Spain-Mexico).

Also attending will be renowned writers and researchers, including Colombian poet Fernando Rendon and U.S. historian Aviva Chomsky, as well as cultural officials from Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

Morales said that countries with large delegations are Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Venezuela, Italy, Ecuador, the United States, Russia and Angola, with the latter bringing also music and dance groups, fine artists and artisans.

President of the Cuban Book Institute, Zuleika Romay said literary novelties include a new edition of Jose Marti’s “The Golden Age” and “Simple Verses”, as well as 18 books on his life and work, on occasion of the Cuban National Hero’s 160th birthday anniversary.

The works by Cuban-Uruguayan novelist Daniel Chavarria and historian Pedro Pablo Rodriguez will also be recognized.
