(Granma International) – A resounding call for a joyful, populous and spirited May Day march to celebrate International Workers’ Day was made in Havana during a Cuban Workers’ Federation (CTC) provincial meeting, held April 27 finalize preparations.
Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, a member of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and CTC secretary general, called on workers to express their support for the Revolution during the massive march, as well as their commitment and responsibility to advance the country’s economic model.
The meeting was attended by Mercedes López Acea, member of the Party Political Bureau, a vice president of the Council of State and first secretary of the Party in Havana, who urged citizens to demonstrate the noble, humanistic values and solidarity of Cuban workers on May Day.
The excitement of affiliates from different sectors of the economy and services which will participate in the march through the emblematic Plaza de la Revolución next Friday, reached the capital’s Lázaro Peña theatre, where the meeting was held.
Arletys Barasal, representative of the Health Workers Union in the province, declared that the more than 50,000 sector professionals are ready, and will arrive to the event in the capital, led by hundreds of collaborators from the Henry Reeve International Medical Brigade, who fought against Ebola in Africa.
Representatives from other trade unions and municipalities of the capital scheduled to participate in the great celebration of the global proletariat, also presented the activities they intend to bring to the march, which will be rounded off by a large group from the Young Communist League.
The May Day march, which has as its maxim ‘United in the construction of socialism,’ is also motivated by the presence in Cuba of the Five decorated Heroes of the Republic who served unjust sentences in the United States for their efforts to fight anti-Cuban terrorism.
