Cuban FM Thanks China’s Support against US Blockade

Havana, Apr 20 (Prensa Latina) Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez today thanked China’s support in international forums against the over 50-year-old U.S. economic, financial, and commercial blockade of the Caribbean country.

Rodriguez highlighted the Asian nation’s rejection to that Washington’s hostile policy during the official welcome to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi, who started in Havana an official tour of Latin America.

The U.S. blockade has caused more than nine billion USD in losses to Cuba and it is in violation of the UN Charter and International Law.

The world community has condemned the blockade and demanded the immediate lift of that coercive measure for 22 consecutive years at the UN General Assembly.

The Cuban Foreign minister also considered Wang’s visit an expression of and another step in the strengthening of links between the two countries.

“They are longstanding relations of close friendship and cooperation, which are on a full, comprehensive stage”, said the Cuban minister.

Rodriguez added that links between China and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) are strong. Cuba passed CELAC presidency to Costa Rica late last January.

Meanwhile, Wang stated that relations with Cuba are among priorities of the foreign policy and the Communist Party of China.

The Chinese Foreign minister called the Caribbean country a reliable friend and insisted on the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation amid the complex world situation.

The visitor was also committed to continue supporting the Cuban government’s fight against the US blockade at international forums.

Finally, Wang said that his visit to Cuba is the prelude to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s trip to Cuba next July.

Following his stay in Havana, the Chinese Foreign Minister will continue his tour of other Latin American nations, including Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil, where he will also meet with top government authorities.
