Havana, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) – The People´s Power National Assembly passed today the new Labor Code, whose draft project was subject to popular consultation that included over two million persons.
In the first day of the 2nd Ordinary Sessions of the 8th Legislature, the top legislative organ also okayed the creation of a commission to work in the final redaction of the Code, on the basis of modifications suggested this Friday by the deputies.
The president of the Commission of Constitutional and Legal Affairs, Jose Luis Toledo, read the conclusions which are in compliance of the Constitution of the Republic.
According with Toledo, the document adjusts the standing code approved in the decade of the 80s of last century to the production relations that begin to emerge with the compliance of the directives of Economic and Social Policy of the Cuban Communist Party and the Revolution.
He also added it has as essential objective the recovery of work discipline, the strengthening of management role in state entities and to foresee any act of injustice found in the links of employer-employee.
It also seeks to consolidate the role of workers and trade unions in achieving productive efficiency and the services.
Toledo recalled the Labor Code was discussed by two million 802 thousand 459 persons including diplomatic missions and cooperators abroad.
Debates generated the modification of 101 of the Code´s articles, the inclusion of 28 new regulations and the total reelaboration of the chapter referring to trade union organizations, among other aspects, he said.
Among the modifications mentioned by the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Margarita Gonzalez, is that pregnant employees or with children under one year-old is exempt of carrying out extraordinary tasks.
The new Code authorizes the use of contracts for an undetermined period of time for discontinued or cyclical tasks in activities which has higher work demand in certain periods, and establishes the obligation of the entity and the employee to protect the labor files under their custody.
