Documentary on Fidel Castro Premiered in South Africa

The documentary Fidel, the Untold Story, by U.S. filmmaker Estela Bravo, was premiered at the Ninth Latin American and Caribbean Film Festival in Johannesburg, South Africa.


Bravo combines Fidel Castro’s personal story and the history of the Cuban Revolution and includes interviews with personalities, such as Alice Walker, Harry Belafonte, Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez and US Congressman Charles Rangel, among others.

Cuban Ambassador to South Africa, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, and other members of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to South Africa were invited to the screening, attended by a large audience. The documentary, shot in 2001, covers 40 years of Cuba’s history through a close approach to Fidel Castro, universally recognized as one of the most outstanding political figure in the world over the past two centuries.
