A Thousand Voices Demand US Release of the Cuban Five

Imagen activaHavana, Nov 11 (Prensa Latina) – Through the “Voices for the Five” campaign and website, about 1,140 people from all over the world are calling for freedom for four of the Cuban Five who are still being held in the United Sates. The prison time being served by Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Fernando González, Antonio Guerrero and René González, the latter now in Cuba after serving his sentence, is extremely disproportionate and excessive, U.S. lawyer Peter Shey denounced.

In a video message, Shey, who is president and executive director of the Center for Human Rights and Constitutional Law in Los Angeles, California, expressed support for an International Commission of Inquiry on the treatment of these Cuban heroes by the U.S. government.

The commission, which will meet March 7-8 in London, is one of the most important initiatives around the world in this campaign and will be organized by the European solidarity movement and the International Association of Democratic Lawyers.

This international event will be the prelude to the third “5 Days for the Cuban Five” solidarity conference in Washington in May 2014.
