Havana, October 26 (RHC) – Carlos Cortes, the Senior advisor to the World Fund Project of the U.N. Development Program (UNDP), has praised Cuba’s advances against Tuberculosis.
In statements to the Cuban News Agency, Cortes said that Cuba has kept close control of the disease for over 50 years and the country has one of the lowest TB levels in the western hemisphere.
During the 20th Latin American Congress of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, which closed Friday in Havana, the UN official pointed out that the low level is the result of the Cuban health system, which includes quality treatment and epidemiological follow-up based on its primary health care program.
The UNDP financially support TB control strategy in different countries by assisting the purchase of resources, such as reagents, lab equipment and pharmaceuticals.
