8.5 Million Cubans Readying for Oct. 2013 Election
Havana, Aug 16 (Prensa Latina) – The National Election Commission (CEN) convenes 8.5 million Cubans to register for the 2012-2013 General Elections the Council of States co-organizes.
CEN spokesman Julio Torres said the number of voters matches the latest poll and behaves in accordance with the national demographic ratings, some 11 million population.
At the press meet Torres told Prensa Latina the CEN is publishing the final list of voters on September 22nd to complete the review within the first ten days of October to start the poll on October 21st, 2013 to elect for 54-month office the delegates to the Municipal Assembly of the Peoples’ Power.
It will be followed by the elections of Provincial an National representatives.
The CEN Spokesman said the registry’s top features, in accordance with the Constitution, are its permanent, public and binding nature; it adjoins the voters actual address and the defunct plus readjustments like the change of circumscriptions through geopolitical changes like the 2010 birth of Artemisa and Mayabeque provinces.
Alina Balseiro, president of the CEN, said the institution already picked the juries and the remaining staff for the voting offices and registration tables, plus the consultants at national, provincial, municipal and neighborhood levels -14,500 circumscriptions with 50,900 areas- presently undergoing training to manage the logistics.
